Skate park obstacles I pull over for

Double sided curbs on top of some banks. Slappy curbs -Banana shapes and kooky bits. Surprise me Bank them 80 degrees so they can be slapped. Flatbar - round of course. kids need to work out the pinch before they put it all on the line ...Small spine to learn on. Pool coping with a death box. Those little square patterned tiles that crackle like fireworks set a foot under. Give us textural kids a way to feel more. Manny pad.

Great news, mini half pipe is a great idea

I'm so glad to hear there will be an upgrade. There's no way the old park will be kept in any sensible proposal, sentimentality isn't a great reason and it's way past its use by date. There is a distinct lack of quality medium transitions in Knox for beginners to practice on and anyone crying out for massive transitions can always head to New Knox. That mini half pipe is an amazing idea. For some reason it's the hardest thing ever to build, only St Kilda and Noble Park have anything similar…

Please reconsider demolishing old knox skatepark

Knox skatepark as it currently stands is weird, wonky, and wonderful. It’s quirky unevenness makes it both unique and challenging to ride. Moreover, it’s steeped in history. I first wrote this park well over 20 years ago. Now I frequently visit with my daughter as she loves riding the snake run. A quick glance at the graffiti prevalent there currently shows a deep personal connection for many to the space, particularly the two big bowls. I do understand that the combination of debris…

Council not listening

At the initial consultation session, a number of attendees conveyed their desire for the park to be enhanced not demolished. A number of the reasons put forward at that meeting are now being reinforced in the comments on this page. This clearly shows the people of Knox are very keen to retain a number of the original park elements for various reasons. Although the new design looks nice as a render, the elevations indicate this will be a fairly tame park. Over the past 30+ years a number of…

Change is good

I get that old knox is a part of history, but I feel that the current state of the skatepark is severely disappointing it’s bowls are painted(or smt) in a really weird way that while skating on them if you roll over a twig then your board just stops. I have had so many near accidents from them. A new skate park would encourage new skaters to skate in a much better facility. A good idea could be to add a bit more of a street section since from what I saw there wasn’t much and a bit of street is…

Old Knox is historically import

I agree with all those who say not to lose the bowls and snake run. This park has an important place in our skate history. It has been skated by all the big names in the world of both local and international skating. It appeared in the us original thrasher magazine. Hosoi and Danny Way off the top of my head skated here. When I first heard of the proposal to upgrade I wrote in pleading as a Knox rate payer , to please repair these integral pieces of our state’s history and not to ruin an…

big bowls must stay!

As I understood it, the original big bowls were going to be kept. From the community of users at Old Knox, I have heard only the wish for them to be repaired and kept. With the very real historical value this park contributes to the Knox, and wider Australian skate community (I know many people have traveled here (bringing and spending their money) just to skate the big bowls) it would be an utter shame to see them gone. I wish the park could be heritage listed: particularly the big bowls!
