Koolunga Native Reserve Future Directions Plan Project Update
27 April 2023
The draft Future Directions Plan for Koolunga Native Reserve is now available for feedback.
The draft Plan brings together technical studies and community engagement activities which have been carried out over the last couple of years and provides clear direction for the protection and future development of Koolunga Native Reserve.
The draft Future Directions Plan has three objectives:
- Protect the ecological biodiversity and habitat values of the land
- Better manage stormwater to improve water quality
- Continue to welcome the local community to enjoy the natural environment and improve their health and wellbeing
Key activities proposed include:
- Ongoing bushland management including planting and weeding
- Updates to seating, paths and signs
- Pathway design to protect rare native species and direct access away from bushland areas
Proposed stormwater quality management activities include:
- Install a gross pollutant trap at the Forest Road drain outlet near Forest Road
- Plant trees and vegetation along the northern fence line of the reserve to absorb stormwater
- Review condition of Forest Road Drain within the Reserve
The previously proposed wetland has not been included as an action within the draft Future Directions Plan as it would reduce the amount of grassed open space area currently used for community recreation activities.
Please visit the project page to review the draft Future Directions Plan and all proposed actions and share your feedback. Consultation closes at 11.59pm Sunday 28 May.
