We invite you to have your say about a proposed wetland within the Koolunga Native Reserve to filter stormwater runoff from surrounding urban areas before it enters Blind Creek waterway. Proposed works include a new water quality/habitat wetland, seating areas, new path links, new plants and shrubs to improve plant diversity and habitat for wildlife at the reserve; as well as aquatic plants within the wetland to provide treatment functions and safe breeding areas for native fish, turtles, frogs and birdlife.

What are your thoughts on the concept plan?

PaulH says:
I posted my polite comments here against the plan in March. Now they are not here. Why?

GJB says:
Why doesn’t the Open Space area of KCC develop a new Koolunga Master Plan, like the ones they have done at other Neighbourhood Open Spaces?
12 April, 2021
GJB says:
Our park is a Neighbourhood Space (KCC Open Space Plan) serving a variety of users & activity (pg 22). It needs a new plan to reflect this.

GJB says:
Why don’t KCC do Master Plan for Koolunga like the 2018 Peregrine Reserve in Rowville? Same issues, values and involved residents. Google it

SteveE says:
KCC plainly endorses gum trees at any cost and doesn't care for any other existing trees. Stop forcing more gums in the urban setting!
12 April, 2021
SteveE says:
Natural sequence farming slows water flows, increases soil hydration, and fertility. KCC has an opportunity to do good work - don't waste it
12 April, 2021
SteveE says:
Use Peter Andrews' natural sequence farming ideas to better care for the Koolunga environment - if you don't know, google him and it!
12 April, 2021
SteveE says:
Plenty of gullies for wetlands along the creek line. Use a similar idea from Blind Ck closer to Knox to rework the creek at Koolunga.
12 April, 2021
SteveE says:
Saw the creek in full flow; obvious input from the east. Obvious the creek needs work to include a wetlands of sorts. Leave open space alone
12 April, 2021
SteveE says:
The notice board states KCC will redevelop the Creek when they really mean to steal open space. That notice is downright dishonest.

Barney says:
Seeking signatures for anti-wetlands petition in my street, 45 out of 49 signed. 2 didn't care, 1 wanted to check, only 1 favoured the plan.

Barney says:
GetMeOutdoors, I walked my dogs this morning after 50mm of rain (local rain gauge). It was fine and firm, no flooding. Be honest indeed.
