Help shape the future of Ferntree Gully Cemetery
We are inviting your feedback on various aspects of Ferntree Gully Cemetery.
This is your opportunity to share your thoughts on additional services and features you would like to see, and ideas on how we can make the cemetery more welcoming for visitors.
Your feedback will help us to develop the Ferntree Gully Cemetery Masterplan.
The masterplan sets out a strategic direction for the cemetery, and aims to:
- develop more ashes position and memorialisation opportunities to meet community demand
- improve the landscape to make the cemetery a welcoming space
- respect the cemetery’s historical significance and local environment
- fulfil Council’s ongoing obligation to maintain the cemetery
About Ferntree Gully Cemetery
Ferntree Gully Cemetery was established in 1873 on 5 acres of Crown land. Knox Council took over responsibility as a Trustee of the cemetery in 1982 to manage cemetery operations.
The cemetery is at full capacity with a limited number of ashes positions remaining for purchase. There is community demand to develop more ashes positions and memorialisation opportunities and the masterplan will address this.
The masterplan will not change the land size of the cemetery. Due to the cemetery’s fixed land size, there is no opportunity to develop more gravesite positions.
The masterplan will not change the current land zoning or planning controls. The land is zoned for public use and has the planning controls to protect the vegetation and heritage land, and restrict development.Have your say by 2 December 2024
