In early 2002, we received feedback from the Upper Ferntree Gully community on a proposed upgrade to the lighting on the main baseball diamond at Kings Park.
29 responses were received with over 90% indicating overall support for the project.
About the works
This project is planned for delivery in June 2023 and will see the installation of six new light towers, each containing a series of energy-efficient LED light fittings. Associated electrical works will also be included as part of these works.
The upgrade is funded in partnership through Council's Structured Sporting Facilities Capital Works Program and potential grants received from external parties. The upgrade will provide a facility that meets the Australian Standard for baseball training and match activities (500 lux infield, 300 lux outfield). The lighting planning will ensure any negative impacts of spill and glare are reduced for neighbouring residents.
These enhancements aim to improve safety for players and encourage greater participation in baseball for all, with a particular focus on junior and female participants. They reflect Council's ongoing commitment to improve sporting facilities for the community.
